Parallel Dimension

November 9, 2021 by Doug Rudnik Leave a Comment

These unremarkable little draws on the prairie are wildlife havens, and for some reason a “draw” on my own soul to explore. I could walk a dry creek bed for miles in search of treasures – perhaps an arrowhead, a colorful stone or an antique bottle cap – remnants of eons past, crossing paths with the ancients, a thin place to another dimension. I feel the shift in my own reality. It feels familiar, like I’ve been here before. Feels like home, and I wonder if these trees remember me.

Fall is that wonderful feeling you get from under a toasty warm, soft, fluffy comforter…….right before winter crawls in to bed and puts its ice cold toes on you! 😆😂

We’ll Cross That Bridge

October 16, 2021 by Doug Rudnik Leave a Comment

There are no guarantees what we’ll find around the bend. but the future looks bright as long as we are walking together. Should we encounter difficulty, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, and know we have what it takes to go on.

Peace of the wild

November 18, 2020 by Doug Rudnik Leave a Comment

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”
― Wendell Berry, The Selected Poems of Wendell Berry, “The Peace of Wild Things”

Late Fall in Wyoming

This photo was taken on my recent trip to Wyoming. I saw several moose, which was the objective. Of course, it would have been great to have a big bull moose in the middle of this scene…but no…ha! I love Wendell Berry’s poem here because coming into the “peace of wild things” is what I do. It’s been my life. Even though I am not there today, seeing this brings me back and I feel that peace all over again. I hope you experience it, too!

Frost of Memories

“I am filled time and again
with a heart-aching wonder
when I think
of the fire
and frost of memories
of the everlastingness
of love
the solace

and the power

Need the Fire

January 9, 2020 by Doug Rudnik Leave a Comment

It was Edith Sitwell that told us, “Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.” (Taken Care Of)

Doesn’t this cabin need a fireplace?? Perhaps we’re just not seeing it….definitely need a fireplace, right?

Ending, Beginning

December 28, 2019 by Doug Rudnik Leave a Comment

As the sun sets on this year and decade, we are deeply grateful for our blessings. We pause to remember those that served us, those that left us, and those that touched our hearts in profound ways. We use this ending to forgive others, and ourselves, in the hope of new beginnings as we celebrate the wonderful synergy of working together.

Grace and peace be on us all in the new year!

Living in Awe

December 26, 2019 by Doug Rudnik Leave a Comment

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
~Albert Einstein

I’m not one to live my life desperately seeking the next miracle. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t believe in miracles, it’s just that I have a stronger belief in the power of personal action. However, above the fray of my own rudimentary existence there is a world of wonder that constantly amazes me. I mean, just think of all the magnificent intricacies that even make life possible. Then to see the beautiful vistas and all of variety of creatures of land, air and sea, It takes my breath away! It does seem miraculous to me! When I realize that I am very much a part of all of that, why shouldn’t I see my life as equally miraculous?!

Everyone will have their own opinion on what constitutes a true “miracle” – I’m not here to argue that. From my observation, it appears that people who see life as a very special gift worthy of awe live a much fuller life. If that is true, therein lies the choice.
